Garrett Country Club first opened for play in 1917. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow. Mr. Bendelow designed many courses during that period, including Medinah Country Club in Chicago Illinois. Medinah has hosted the U.S. Open on three different occasions, most currently was the 1990 U.S. Open.
From 1917 to 1940 Garrett Country Club was operated as a private club run by the local shareholders. From 1940-1975 the course had several different owners. Rich and Sandy Sholl purchased the course in 1975.
The Sholl's opearted the course for 29 years and made the biggest change in the hisory of Garrett Counrty Club. In the spring of 1995 they purchased 84 additional acres to expand the golf course into the 18 hole par 72 facility available today.
They sold the course to the current owners Dave & Amy Demske in January of 2004.
Garrett Country Club plays to 6,548 yards from the black tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 71.7 and the slope rating is 126. From the forward tees the course measures 4840 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 4, a par-5 that plays to 554 Yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 178 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 5, a 424 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 16, a 178 yard par-3.
